Domestic Violence Statistics:

  • Every fifteen seconds in the United States, a woman is battered by someone who claims to love her.
  • Research indicates that half of all women in this country will experience some form of violence from their partners during their relationship.
  • It is no longer legal for a man to rape his wife in the state of Montana, as of the 1985 legislative session.
  • One out of every four women murdered is killed by her perpetrator.
  • 40% of serious injuries treated in hospitals result from domestic violence.
  • A victim generally leaves an abusive relationship 3 to 7 times before she leaves the relationship for good.
  • In 25% of reported cases, the victims of abuse are pregnant.
  • 70% of the men who abuse their female partners also abuse their children.
  • Children from violent homes have higher risks of substance abuse and juvenile delinquency.

Volunteer!!

Domestic violence programs in Montana rely heavily on volunteers to assist in carrying out the daily operations. Volunteers are a vital component in any successful program. They fill the roles as advocates, crisis line workers, support group leaders, trainers, and educators. Volunteers provide the very backbone of the movement. You are needed as a volunteer in this movement. You can make a difference.
